PenNaatak is now accepting directing proposals for its Fall 2010 show. The fall show will be a full-length play approximately 90-120 minutes in length. In the past, PenNaatak has performed both professionally-written and student-written plays.
Your directing proposal should include the following:
1. Vision : As a director, it is really important to have a vision or a production concept/theme and to clearly communicate that to the actors as well as the audience.
2. Technical Requirements/Set Design : Even though people think directors handle actors and tech people handle the set, it is really important to think about the requirements of your set, the sound and lights to enhance your vision. Also, describe the basic necessities that are essential to your vision. Do not be frightened if you have absolutely no knowledge of set design, lights or sound. There are several experienced members in Naatak who will definitely help you as and when required. However, do have a basic idea of what you want your play to look like.
3. Actors : You need to tell us how many actors you need, the gender and age of each actor, and the role/importance of each actor (main, side, double etc.).
4. Foreseeable challenges and Potential strengths: Answer these questions: Why is this play appropriate for Naatak and an audience in general? How will it add to Naatak's value in terms of culture? How can you as a director enhance Naatak's audience and standard? What are the pitfalls of the play and how do you expect to combat them?
Please submit your proposal in 1-2 pages and attach it to the script. Email your proposals to naatak@gmail.com by August 10th 2010.
If you don't have a script or can't find one, PenNaatak has an archive of plays which you're most welcome to check out; so please contact us if you want to direct but don't have a play!Remember that the play you choose does not necessarily have to be written by a South Asian author. We will gladly accept all kinds of plays as long as we can portray a bit of South Asian culture.
We're there to help if you need absolutely anything, even if you need help coming up with a proposal. Also, please don't hesitate to ask us any questions at all, especially regarding technical requirements, length of the play etc. You can contact us at the address given above.
